Do you know there is a correct way of drinking water? Else can cause heartburn, indigestion and even arthritis.
Water is one of the most important things our body needs. Without water, the functioning of the body and its vital organs becomes a very difficult task.
Water plays a role in essential body functions like digestion, metabolism, and weight loss and management. When it is hot, we sweat a lot and so to replenish the lost water, we need to drink more.
Dehydration can lead to stomach problems like constipation, fatigue, etc., and can even be fatal in some cases.
Apart from hydrating the organs, water also maintains electrolyte balance, and blood pressure lubricates joints, regulates body temperature, and promotes cell health.
While not drinking sufficient water does have its side effects, it is equally important that we are mindful of how we consume it.
According to the ancient science of Ayurveda, the way you choose to drink water also affects your overall health. Ayurveda has numerous theories regarding tips to drink water which have been followed over centuries.
Actor Alia Bhatt's yoga trainer, Anshuka Parwani, recently in an Instagram post addressed the healthy benefits of drinking water, but in a correct manner.
According to Anshuka, it is harmful to drink water while you are standing and can cause an array of issues like indigestion and even trigger arthritis because of the speed of the water.
"Having water while standing can cause indigestion and heartburn. It can also trigger arthritis and cause harm to the lungs as the speed at which the water travels through the system increases," she said.
Anshuka further said the correct way of drinking water is by sitting down, and through a copper vessel.
"The correct way to drink water is to sit down with your back straight. This way, the water reaches the brain and helps improve brain activity. It also aids in digestion and tackles bloating," she added.

Here are a few important tips you need to follow for the correct way of drinking water
Sit and drink
As Anshuka said, it is important to relax and sit down and drink water, as standing disrupts the balance of fluids in the body which leads to a greater accumulation of fluids in the joints, leading to arthritis and other bone-related issues.
Drinking while in a sitting position helps calm and relax the muscles and the nervous system and also helps digest food. Ayurveda says it also does not put pressure on the kidneys which can easily do their filtration process this way.
